SOSM Annual General Meeting April 8th 2017 Fribourg

As already indicated the 2017 AGM will take place in Fribourg on April the 8th, 11:00. The venue is at the

University Fribourg,
Geography Unit, Room 226,
Chemin du Musée 4

Many thanks to the Geography Department of the University for supporting us. The location can be found here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/138363300#map=18/46.79370/7.15680 and instructions on how to get there are here: http://www.unifr.ch/geoscience/geographie/en/general-information

The event will follow our proven formula with a roughly one hour formal part starting at 11:00, with lunch following and a fairly unstructured mapping party as the activity in the afternoon from 13:30 onwards.

Guests, including such that simply want to learn something about OpenStreetMap, are welcome to both parts. Could however both members and guests indicate to info@sosm.ch if they plan to attend, particularly for lunch, so that we can inform the restaurant how many guests they can expect.

Looking forward to seeing you in Fribourg

Report from the SOSM AGM and Mapping Party in St. Gallen

Achavi view of objects that were modified or created during the mapping party

Objects that were modified or created during the mapping party

Last Saturday, the yearly SOSM AGM and subsequent mapping party took place in St. Gallen. We elected Raphael as our new treasurer during the AGM, since Pascal stepped down from this position and whom we would like to thank again for his work. Philipp was elected as a new revisor to replace Raphael, and Roman as an additional assessor to the board, where he will mainly take care of doing more marketing. Apart from that, there were no further changes regarding the board or revisors. After the OSMF had accepted our application in the beginning of this year, we unanimously decided to sign the local chapters agreement. We will thus soon be in a regulated relationship with the global OSMF.

After a fine lunch, we split up the old town of St. Gallen between us and set out to collect addresses and POIs, and also to update existing data. Along the way, we were also able to enjoy the nice and springlike weather. Some of us met again in the late afternoon to digitise and further improve the collected data, and to talk about experiences and tips related to OpenStreetMap. A remaining, in the meantime rather small group finally went for a cosy dinner in a nearby restaurant to finish the day.

According to a rough estimation based on the Overpass-API, 58 objects have been deleted, 615 were modified and 716 newly added during the mapping party. However, at least Simon had added several buildings before the mapping party already, which are not part of these statistics.

Mapping party and SOSM AGM

Burgdorf Oberdorf

We held our annual general meeting at the restaurant Schützenhaus in Burgdorf this year. The associations activities of the last year were presented,  mainly the new SOSM server and the services provided with it.

After (a good) lunch as announced we held a mapping party. Simon distributed printouts of the surrounding municipalities and their missing roads and off we went. After successfully collecting data many of the mappers met again at the Schützenhaus and added it to OSM after which we had dinner (participating in SOSM events is not good for your waistline :-)).

While we didn’t manage to get everything “green”, the situation around Burgdorf is substantially better now; with only a handful of street names missing in some of the municipalities.namestats_post_mapping
